Yes, I am one of “those” kinds of people – the sappy kinds of people. I am a sucker for love and all the details that come with it! Like how you met, who asked who, where the proposal happened, did you know it was going to happen, etc. etc. I nerd out on wedding stuff. What can I say, this is my jam!

An engagement photoshoot is one of the first steps taken towards your big day! Each outfit should be planned ahead of time to ensure that you look (& feel) your absolute best. However, we know that planning the perfect engagement photoshoot outfits can be easier said than done.

So whether you’re here looking for ideas or just need a little guidance, read on for our ultimate guide to engagement photoshoot outfits! (P.S. If you’re local to Denver,  check out a few of our recommended kickass vendors we have here).

1. Be comfortable

First and foremost, always be sure to wear clothes that you’re comfortable in. If you can find something to wear that reflects your style and personality, you really can’t go wrong. Remember, the goal of your photos is to reflect you and your partner’s love for one another, and that starts with feeling good in what you’re wearing.

2. Complement each other

Secondly, try to choose an outfit that compliments your partner’s. Don’t misunderstand us- “complement” does not mean “match.” If you’re unsure of what colors go well together, consider heading to the paint department at a big box store and check color swatches!

Another pro tip- consider the location/setting of your photoshoot before choosing your outfit. For example, earth tones such as gray, green, brown, beige, or white photograph great in outdoorsy settings. If you’re taking pictures during sunset, try wearing pastel colors like yellow, orange, pink, or light blue. If you’re taking photos in a city setting, opt for colors such as black, white, navy, or red.

3. Accessorize

Thirdly, be sure to clarify with your wedding photographer beforehand how many outfit changes are included in your package. We recommend keeping your outfit changes to a minimum in order to save time.

However, you can easily change up your look by adding or exchanging accessories! Handbags, belts, hats, statement earrings, jackets, jewelry, and shoes can transform any outfit with ease. We recommend bringing a few of your favorite items along with you to your shoot!

4. Consider the season

Lastly, remember to consider the time of year your engagement shoot is taking place. Spring is a time of renewal, so why not reflect that in your outfit choice? Opt for something fresh and airy, like a white dress or a light-colored floral top.

For summer, you’ll want to beat the heat and go for something breezy, like a light-weight skirt or dress. For fall, you can’t go wrong with a cozy sweater or jacket to keep you warm and snug. Winter is all about layers, so don’t be afraid to pile on a chunky sweater under something like a warm brown leather jacket!

Final thoughts

Once again, we can’t stress the importance of making sure your engagement photos are an accurate representation of you and your partner. If you normally wouldn’t be caught dead in a suit and tie, don’t wear one just for the sake of your photos! These photos are likely to make their way onto your wedding website, invitations, and probably the mantle above your fireplace. Choose an outfit that you feel most confident in and the rest will surely follow!
