A few weeks ago, we shared our best tips for narrowing down your guest lists. Now, we’re thinking of an even bigger picture. When planning a wedding, there are so many details to think about! And just like sitting down to write your guest list, it can be easy to get overwhelmed. Today, we’re hoping to help you stay organized and focused on what’s most important to you. Here’s how to create a wedding priority list:

Make a master list

Write down everything you can think of that you need to do or arrange for your wedding. Include big items like booking a venue and hiring a photographer, as well as smaller details like ordering invitations and picking a color scheme. Don’t worry about putting things in any particular order at this point, just get everything down on paper. If this sounds stressful, don’t worry, that’s where your wedding planner comes in! They’ll have a list of items already prepared (including items that you didn’t even think about!) 

Group similar items together

Once you have your master list, group similar items together. For example, you might put all of your DJ options in one section, or group all of the details related to your ceremony in one and reception in another. This will help you start to see the big picture and get a better idea of what needs to be done first.

Number your items in order of importance

Now it’s time to start putting things in order of importance. Number each item on your wedding priority list from 1 to 10, with 1 being the most important. This will help you focus on the most important tasks first and ensure that nothing gets forgotten along the way. This is a great place to start thinking about your budget. Make a list of things you’re willing to compromise on and perhaps even more importantly, things you’re NOT willing to compromise on. 

Start with the big items

The first step is to tackle the big items on your list. These are the things that need to be done first in order for everything else to fall into place. For example, booking a venue, hiring a photographer and starting conversations with catering should be at the top of your list. Once you have the big items taken care of, you can move on to the smaller details.

Don’t try to do everything yourself

One of the biggest mistakes that couples make is trying to do everything themselves. Wedding planning can be a lot of work. In fact, it can take 36 DAYS (or more) when you add together the research, phone calls, emails, tours, meetings, etc. It doesn’t have to be all-consuming as this is where a wedding planner comes in 😃 This will take some of the pressure off and allow you to enjoy the process with less stress! 

Make time for fun

Like we mentioned earlier, it’s no shock that wedding planning can be stressful, so make sure to schedule in some time for fun. Go on date nights, take dance lessons together, or just spend some time relaxing with your fiancé. This will help you stay sane during the planning process and ensure that you’re still enjoying one of the most precious times in your life- your engagement!

Revisit your list often

Your wedding priority list is a living document that should be revisited often as your wedding day approaches. As you check items off of your list, you may find that other tasks need to be moved up in importance. Don’t be afraid to make changes as needed – this is your list, and it should reflect what’s most important to you.

By following these tips, you’ll be able to create a priorities list that will help you stay organized and focused as you plan your wedding.
